Update as of Thursday, August 24, 2017:

As the project nears completion, final road grading and paving operations have been scheduled.  The area of roadway above the culvert will be raised about 1’ in elevation. The final grading and paving will require a full road closure to avoid unsafe driving conditions.

A full closure of NE 192nd St is scheduled from Monday, August 28 through Friday, September 1.  The previously used detour route will be in place.  Please use extreme caution when using local accesses within the limit of road closure.  The City is permitting this additional closure in order to wrap up traffic impacts as much as possible before school resumes the following week.

Project Status:192nd Culvert Photo 2

Construction has begun.  Work will include removal of the old metal culvert, relocation of existing utilities, construction of a new fish-passable concrete box culvert, restoration & stabilization of the stream banks, mitigation of critical areas impacts, and road reconstruction.  The in-stream portion of work must be completed within the allotted ‘fish window’ when fish presence in the stream is at the lowest.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts

The project will create temporary impacts to vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle travel on NE 192nd St.  All users are encouraged to use alternate routes during the construction operations

  • Travelers approaching from the north can use 228th St SW to connect between 73rdAve NE/61st Ave NE & 80th Ave NE and avoid the work zone.
  • Travelers approaching from the south can use SR-522/Bothell Way NE to connect between 73rdAve NE/61st Ave NE & 80th Ave NE and avoid the work zone.

Please pay attention and adhere to all temporary signage during construction.  The tentatively scheduled (subject to change) work and traffic impacts are anticipated to be:

  • May – Investigation work; intermittent limited traffic disturbance
  • June – Preliminary site work; regular single-lane closures during daytime hours
  • Mid-July – Culvert and utility placement; full roadway closure & detour plan in place
  • August/September – Road & stream restoration; single-lane closures during daytime hours
  • October – Inspection, clean-up, and closeout; intermittent limited traffic disturbance

  • Remove fish barrier;
  • Reduce erosion at culvert outlet.
