Why did the Code Change?
Generally, the State of Washington (“State”) adopts and amends the building and construction codes every three years (triennially). RCW 19.27.050 requires all cities and counties to adopt and enforce the new codes. Before new codes are considered by the State Building Code Council (SBCC), they are reviewed on a national level by the International Code Council (ICC). The ICC is dedicated to the construction of safe, sustainable, affordable, and resilient structures.
