Street Parking
Street parking on public roads in the City of Kenmore is allowed except where otherwise controlled by unsigned or signed parking restrictions.
Unsigned Parking Restrictions
Street parking is available throughout the City of Kenmore consistent with the State's Revised Code of Washington (RCW) legal requirements. These requirements can be found at RCW 46.61.570. Further parking restrictions are enumerated in Kenmore Municipal Code Chapter 10.20.
Per these requirements, there is no parking:
- 30 feet from a traffic control sign or signal
- 20 feet from a crosswalk
- 15 feet from a fire hydrant
- 5 feet from a driveway radius
Additionally, where the traveled way is demarcated by an edge-line on one or both sides, parking on the side where the edge-line is marked is only permitted if the vehicle falls completely outside of the traveled way. In areas where a bicycle or pedestrian lane is demarcated, the vehicle must also fall completely outside the bicycle or pedestrian lane.
City of Kenmore Municipal Code also restricts parking from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. adjacent to mailboxes. Changes to mail delivery schedules mean that mail is occasionally delivered outside of these hours. Please consider the impacts on mail delivery when parking near a mailbox during business hours.
Signed Parking Restrictions
In locations where parked vehicles present safety or operational concerns, the City of Kenmore will post parking restriction signage. Nearly all parking restrictions in the City of Kenmore have been implemented for the purpose of preserving critical sight distance and creating a safer traffic environment.
Time-Limited Parking
Parking in the Kenmore Downtown area (surrounding the intersection of 68th Avenue and NE 181st Street) is limited in some areas to 2 hours between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Parking at Log Boom Park is restricted to 4 hours while the park is open. These restrictions are designed to preserve parking availability for park visitors and improve accessibility to downtown businesses and services.
Abandoned Vehicles
Abandoned vehicles, non-functioning vehicles, and vehicles with expired registration tabs are not permitted to be parked in the right-of-way. Upon a vehicle being reported to police as abandoned, non-functioning, or having expired tabs an officer will tag it with a 24-hour notice and make a reasonable attempt to notify the owner to remove the vehicle. If after 24 hours the vehicle is still present, the officer may impound the vehicle. If the vehicle is not a hazard, it may be left in place for more than 24 hours if the owner has contacted police and confirmed that the vehicle will be removed in short order. If a vehicle has registration expired by more than 45 days, it may be removed immediately with no advance notice. (RCW 46.55.010, RCW 46.55.085 & RCW 46.55.113)
Curb Painting
The City of Kenmore does not paint curbs to denote parking restrictions, but does allow private property owners to paint curbs so long as it is consistent with standards and the parking code. Property owners must submit a Right-Of-Way permit application with City of Kenmore Development Services, and the permit request will be reviewed by the Public Works Engineering Division. You can request additional information about curb painting by contacting Tobin Bennett-Gold, Traffic Engineer.
