Kenmore Boathouse is complete, welcoming community rowers and high school athletes alike

Kenmore is celebrating the completion of the public Kenmore Boathouse, a 2,800-sq-ft rowing shell house located at the northern end of Rhododendron Park. The Kenmore Boathouse is a public boathouse with the goal of enabling access to the sport for all, regardless of socioeconomic status. HS aged rowers interested in scholarship opportunities should contact their HS athletic director. Other youth and adults should reach out to the Kenmore Rowing Club at kenmorerowinginfo@gmail.com.

Additionally, the Boathouse will serve as a year-round base of operations for the Kenmore Rowing Club and home to all four of Northshore School District’s high school crew teams.

The project completion was celebrated with a small, in-person ribbon cutting ceremony on May 26, 2021. Due to the pandemic, only a small number of individuals could gather for this celebration, but it was filmed and will be shared in the coming weeks. Click here for the full press release.

These improvements supported water access for a variety of hand-carried watercraft. Construction of the boathouse to store rowing shells was intended to support both public and Northshore School District rowing programs. On March 16th, 2020, City Council awarded a $1,195,826 bid for the construction of the 40’x70 boathouse. Construction of the boathouse was planned for spring and summer with operations beginning in the winter of 2020-21.
